Responsible Hunting

Hunting is regulated to maintain game populations at a healthy level and prevent overpopulation, which could harm the ecosystem.

Annually, Timbila Hunting Lodge dedicates itself to establishing the Reserve’s hunting quota through an extensive wildlife conservation plan, underpinned by thorough annual wildlife audits.

This plan thoughtfully includes a selection of non-trophy males and females, which are responsibly offered to both domestic and international hunting enthusiasts.

Our commitment to ethical hunting practices guarantees the sustainability of these activities, fostering the enduring vitality and diversity of the Reserve’s animal herds. To promote genetic variety and robustness within the species, breeding males are judiciously chosen for trophy potential on a biennial basis, with species such as the Sable carefully managed to maintain their strong lineage.

This selective process is part of our pledge to uphold the ecological balance and ensure the continued flourishing of our wildlife.

Hunting Predators

We firmly believe that hunting is a natural process: a predator pursuing prey is a fundamental aspect of life’s cycle. Hunting a large predator, however, is a more delicate matter, particularly if the predator lacks the instinctual impulse to flee.

Therefore, within the reserve, we hunt certain predators infrequently and only for justifiable reasons such as genetic management, controlling predator overpopulation, addressing the behavior of animals that have become dangerous, or dealing with disease.
