Bowhunting in South Africa
Our bowhunting sites have been thoughtfully selected by bowhunters to provide unique and customized experiences for fellow enthusiasts. These sites are equipped with blinds, tree stands, and opportunities for still hunting or walk and stalk. Only bowhunters are permitted to hunt in these areas. The camp also includes practice targets for archers to hone their skills.
Timbila Game Lodge offers specialized services for bowhunters.
Timbila Game Lodge, located in Limpopo province, offers some of the most spectacular bowhunting experiences in the world, catering to both traditional and compound bow hunters.
Our hunting methods include walk and stalk, providing an exciting and immersive challenge for those seeking a more hands-on approach. Although the success rate for walk and stalk hunting is lower than hunting from blinds, many archers are increasingly trying this method at least once or twice a day, often in our dry riverbeds.
Most hunts are conducted from blinds and tree stands, with shooting distances ranging from 10 to 30 meters. We provide a packed lunch and drinks while you hunt from the blinds, though you can also choose to have lunch at the lodge if you prefer.
We also offer hybrid hunts, providing the opportunity to approach game initially by car and then continue the hunt on foot, or through mini drives, strategically bringing the game closer to the hunter.
At Timbila Game Lodge, bowhunters have exclusive permission to hunt certain bird species.
Guinea Fowl, Francolin, Sandgrouse, Egyptian Geese Doves & Ostrich. These tailored services and exclusive hunting opportunities provide bow hunters with a unique and immersive experience, aligning with the lodge’s commitment to sustainable and ethical hunting practices.
No Kill Policy.
Timbila Game Lodge has a No Kill Policy, meaning that if, as part of a package, you do not manage to harvest the intended game, only the daily rate will apply for your stay, without the trophy fee (but also without the package discount). This condition is particularly beneficial for bowhunters, whose success rate tends to be lower compared to rifle hunters.
